Privacy policy
In short: Testimony does not collect, transmit, share or sell any personal data, and the extension makes no network requests. Everything it saves stays in your browser, on your device.
What Testimony stores on your device
- Screenshots of the tabs you record or capture.
- Step titles, your notes and your annotations.
- The address and title of the pages where steps were captured.
- The ticket, environment, tester, date and summary you type in.
- Your capture options and the list of sites you have allowed.
This information is saved in your browser's local storage. It is never uploaded, synced to a server, or shared with the developer or anyone else.
What Testimony does not do
- It never reads what you type. It does not read the text you enter into fields or the values of fields. A typing step records only the name of the field, for example "Typed in the 'Email' field".
- It only watches where you allow it. It observes clicks and typing only on sites you have explicitly allowed, and only while you are recording.
- It has no accounts, analytics, advertising or tracking.
- It does not run remote code or contact any server.
Screenshots show whatever is on your screen, so a screenshot can contain information you typed or that the page displayed. Use the redact tool before you share an exported PDF if that matters.
Permissions, and why they are needed
| Permission | Why Testimony needs it |
|---|---|
| Access to a site (requested one site at a time) | To record your clicks and capture screenshots of the site you are testing. Nothing is granted at install, and you can remove any site at any time from the popup. |
| Active tab | To capture the tab you are on when you press the toolbar icon or the capture shortcut. |
| Storage and unlimited storage | To keep your steps, screenshots, settings and history on your device without them being cleared when space is low. |
| Scripting | To start the recorder on the sites you allowed, only while recording. |
Sharing and third parties
Testimony does not share data with anyone because it does not have your data. It does not sell data, use it for advertising, use it to assess creditworthiness, or use it for any purpose other than creating your test evidence.
Retention and deletion
- Data stays in your browser until you delete it.
- Choosing New session moves the current session to History, which keeps your last five sessions. Deleting a History entry removes it.
- Removing the extension deletes all of its data.
- You can revoke access to any site from the popup under Allowed sites, or from Chrome's extension settings.
This website
This site is a static page hosted on GitHub Pages. It has no cookies, analytics, scripts or third-party fonts. As with any web host, GitHub may keep standard server logs of visits under its own privacy statement. The developer does not receive that information.
The site links to other websites, such as Buy Me a Coffee for optional tips. Those sites have their own privacy policies. Testimony itself has no payments and does not link to them from inside the extension.
Children
Testimony is a professional tool and is not directed at children. It does not knowingly collect information from anyone.
Changes to this policy
If Testimony ever changes how it handles data, this page will be updated before the change is released, and the date above will change.
